Coincidentally my Delta Reserve annual fee hit a few days ago. Called in to cancel, got transferred to the "retention desk". I said the program and the card have lost all value and I'd like to cancel. The rep repeatedly asked why I wouldn't spend $75k on the card to get unlimited access to skyclubs (in '25 that is). I explained the opportunity cost and how you'd be better off with a cash back card. Her response was "but you'd lose out on all those skymiles!"

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but based on this interaction, AMEX/DL have their heads shoved way up their own collective a**holes.
