I think one of the HND - LHR services does have the arrangement where even the Y and W passengers can eat food at the Sakura lounge and then have the meal about halfway through the flight?
I wonder how far JAL is going with their “sustainability” disguised as cost-cutting measures. I would have probably gone hungry if that’s the case for only one main meal service. At least in J (and F), the anytime menu did help out to make full stomach.
JL41 has lounge access for the Y passengers, rather than serving a meal after take off. Premium Economy does not need special access, as they have access to the lounge as part of the ticket. I find the JL41 flow quite good, though they should real serve the meal closer to landing. But if you sleep through the meal service, they are more than happy to serve your meal when you wake up. Provided you wake up within an hour or so before landing.
The J timing on JL41 is also a bit odd. But with the longer route to avoid Russian airspace, it kind of works well.
