1. Yes, pretty much, though there is a slight question of why was the airplane inbound to wherever you transfered in Canada (?) delayed in the first place. There's a risk that KLM could successfully argue that your delay was not preventable.

2. Complete flight path is concerned and the operating airline of the cancelled/delayed flight is responsible.

3. Dayroom in a hotel is not reimbursable. Only refreshments are. Hotel only on overnight delays.
