My SIN - LHR - OSL return has a tight connection (65 minutes). QF1 is often late >40 minutes so the chances of missing the connection are high.
When QF1 departs from SIN I’ll know the situation. If it is clear that i’ll miss the connection Qantas are likely to book me on the next flight to OSL. This is no good to me because this will be on the same aircraft as my return positioning flight from OSL and I have bags and can’t do B2B.
Can I insist on leaving the itinerary at LHR, if so, what is the diplomatic language used in these circumstances? Also, will they kick my bags out at LHR?
I guess this is one of the pitfalls of booking an Ex EU flight. There's no protection between the main flights and the positioning flights.
As a matter of interest, why did you book a flight with such a tight connection if you know that QF1 is often late? I assume the Qantas flight lands at T3 and the BA flight to OSL departs T5? You could ask Qantas to re-price the flight based on you getting off at LHR, but I assume that will be expensive. Otherwise I guess you have to wait until you see which flight to OSL you get booked on and then buy a single to come back with whoever is most convenient.
