what does it actually mean free of charge? Does it mean free of change fees but you still have to pay any price difference or is it really free of charge like QANTAS does... you turn up and on checkinn they just reassign you if a seat is free.
You go to a service center on the airport and they will rebook to an earlier (or later) flight with no charges (or refunds).
People getting on waitlist and different routings have also been reported, but I would’t count on that.
You should also pay extra attention to your points getting posted sometimes this doesn’t happen (even if your EB# remains on the booking). Retroreg is no problem.
