A friend of mine who's spouse works at Amex in a position where they would know such things said Amex was having an issue with expenses, i.e. per-swipe fees being paid to Delta, which leads to me believe Amex was at least on board with this change, if not the ones pushing for it

one of the many reasons I recommend that folks consider complaining to Amex and not DL
