We volunteered at the BFX giant panda center in October 2011 and had three encounters with year-old panda cubs housed in the panda kindergarten area. BFX is near Ya’an and about two to three hours from Chengdu. I think 2011 was one of the last years when volunteers could interact with giant pandas at this facility. The costs ranged from around $50 to sit next to a cub to $100 to feed panda cubs. I was so lucky because I was the only volunteer who opted to feed the cubs that day.
