I see where the USA embassy is coming from, it is the case that some airlines get a bit twitchy when you are down to the final 6 months, but BA isn't one of these airlines, partly because the UK itself doesn't have these date rules for those entering.
Thanks for the confirmation. I did email BA and, while I got a very prompt reply, it was not-surprisingly off-target as it suggested I review the IATA Travel Centre and country guidelines, which is specifically not what I asked about since I had done so and given them that information.

This response is, of course, spot on, as usual.
