I agree, seperating lounge access from status was a shrewd move. Though of cousre if you earn Diamond by doing 70 nights in a year, then you can have lounge access via the 40 or 70 night milestone reward. However, what it does mean is that IHG can offer Diamond status challenges (as we've seen this year), but not give away lounge access.
