Some Family Mart ATMs won't take my Mitsubishi UFJ bank ATM card, which was issued in Japan. It's a drag.
And on a tangent to the topic, Wise cards that are issued to customers whose home address is in Japan won't work in any ATM in Japan. If the registered address for your account with Wise is in Japan, you can only use your Wise card abroad. Wise cards issued to customers in other countries can be used in Japan.
