This is no different than any other business transactions...don't get emotionally invested one way or the other about Delta's, or from any other airlines.
To me it has always been inevitable that the business scenarios for both me and my vendors will change, and therefore the bundle of business I purchase which defines "loyalty" changes.

I started out as a UA Premier back in 1990 because my boss was a PremEx, before 1K. Since then, my primary airline has been United for 6 years, Northwest for 2, American for 7 (the golden era of MRTC, ruined by Gerald Arpey), United for 3, Southwest for 5, American for 3, then Delta and British Airways (as a proxy for American) for 3 into the pandemic.

My OPM travel needs changed as I rose to different positions in my former employer, and now plummeted as I retired into my own little company. Now I will be a free agent (except for AA lifetime Gold, which is basically worthless) because my bundle of travel involving airplanes is much smaller.

It is not a romantic relationship. It is simply making continuous decisions about how to bundle your OPM and personal travel in advantageous ways and then finding the vendor+partners who will give you the best deal for that bundle.
