You do not have to have the Chase card open when you use the travel together voucher. I have used quite a few over the years and only once did an agent ask for the BA card to be used for the taxes and fees, but backed down once I challenged them.

In any case, remember that there is a $200/$100 statement credit if you book an award ticket in First or Business/Coach using the BA card (and you meet the other published conditions) so you might want to wait until that posts before closing the current card.
