I flew to Schiphol more times than I care to think about for a job a few years back and I'd be very nervous about getting there on the same day for a long haul ticket - they have a good number of days where it's a sh*t show due to wind or fog. Plus a chance of something or other going wrong with BA and an AMS rotation is the first to get chopped and with flights as busy as they are these days getting rebooked to get there on time could be very tricky.

CitizenM is a good option for an overnight though Schiphol hotels / Amsterdam in general are rather pricey these days, but still worth it for peace of mind IMO
