- Spoke with an agent that there won't be any compensation because the tickets were booked by rewards points, the points were refund back to the account
Aeroplan would and will have to give you a reason why they canceled the flight, is it due to a pricing error? There must be a reason and according to the reason, they will have to provide compensation for it whether it's a reward booking or not. It doesn't change the fact that it is an involuntary cancellation.

- Now, the account is locked and I'm not able to use points to book alternate flights for them.. according to the agent, it has to be paid with CC in order to avoid other cancellations..
First, how do you know it is locked? Are you able to log in? Have you been notified that it is locked? Did the agent tell you? if so What is the reason why your account is locked? And yes these days you have to pay with CC for taxes and surcharges to PROCEED the booking. If you use a gift card to pay them, you will not most likely book the ticket. This is a preliminary pre-caution for a ticketing agent to resell redemption tickets. Because they don't have a CC in CAD or USD.
