Yup. As I said, it's AA's fault for not being more clear. None of this changes the fact that if you want to know what these terms mean you have to read the fare rules because they are not consistent between fares. That is, two fares that are marked "flexible" may have different rules. And furthermore AA may change this at any time.
(I actually didn't even know that the rules were on the AA site; I've always just looked them up on EF or matrix the rare time that I've cared)
