I'm now thinking it's probably not worth the risk and time spent queuing for what would be max 6hrs of macau time.

Is there any luggage store facilities in Macau? Say the port/immigration area (probably not)? If I were to do a day trip I would need to leave a rollaboard carryon somewhere (and it doesn't make sense to leave at hotel in HK cause I would otherwise need to backtrack then head to airport - and if I were to stop by HKIA first then that also chews into time available for Macau)
There were luggage lockers at the Macao HK ferry terminal.
