The Langbo Chengdu - REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

Location The hotel location is perfect. It’s located in the Western IFC building (WIFC) which is not very interesting, but it’s right across the street from all the major malls like Tai Koo Li, the IFS, and the pedestrian street district. To the south, it’s a 10 minute walk from Jiu Yan Qiao. It’s a bikeable distance to most other attractions in the city. It’s also a few minutes’ walk away from Dong Da Men Qiao metro station, which takes you to most of the major attractions. It’s just a bit hard to get to Tianfu airport by public transit, since you’d have to make your way to the south station. You could take a Didi for around ¥100.It has a FamilyMart right downstairs, which is a huge plus for me as I love to get snacks. There are also lots of street food carts below the hotel. Check In The lobby is located on the 38th floor. They helped me with my luggage on the ground floor and had it sent to my room later. Like many tall hotels in China, you have to take two elevators to get to your room. Since there are only three elevators to get to the lobby, you might have to wait for a while and / or squeeze with a lot of people during peak days / hours. The lobby has some of the highest ceilings I’ve ever seen. It has a view of all directions. I was helped at the front desk, offered some (Voss) water, and had my check-in process completed quite quickly. The staff was very patient and answered all my questions as well as walked me through all my Gloablist benefits. Some of the highlights were:free laundry / drying / folding for three pieces of clothing, free parking (even when not redeeming points!),free minibar and snacks, but only refilled on every 3rd day (mostly soft drinks with two bottles of Tsingtao), andafternoon tea and happy hour. Room I used a TSU and upgraded to a base-level suite called the “Bedroom Suite”, which I highly recommend doing, since all the suite rooms are on floors 55-60 (non-suite rooms are on 39-55). Even though it’s 60sqm (650sqft), it didn’t feel that large. The design is a bit odd but quite similar to the PH Beijing — it has a separate half bathroom for just the toilet, and the main bathroom has a huge tub and a small-ish shower, whose pressure is on the weaker side. The toilet was incredible, with a touch-screen Kohler bidet that has literally all the options you could ask for. The bathroom had a tub facing the river for me and was a pleasure to unwind in.During the first two nights, the shower was clogged and the water overflowed on the second night. I called the front desk; they came to clean up right away and fixed the issue on the second day.The amenities are by Frederic Malle and smelled quite good. There were two peaches waiting for me and they were juicy. There was a nespresso machine with a milk frother! The teas were all loose leaf (I didn’t know and made a mess). There was no working table; instead, there were two couches, one in each room. There was also no ironing board; when I called for one, they told me they only had five and they were all borrowed out that day. The slippers were softer than the ones in PH Beijing. There’s lots of bottles of Voss water, which seems to be a huge deal to Chinese customers! Dining Breakfast was from 7AM to 10AM (10:30AM on weekends) which seemed quite early. It’s completely packed on the weekend. They scan your keycard at the entrance.Notable items are the 蛋烘糕 (egg crepes) that are freshly made at the station — you can tell them what you want in it, the noodle bar with different types of noodles and toppings (all are spicy!), the fresh fruit bar (you can ask them to make you a fresh smoothie from the fruits they have there), and the 凉粉 (cold jelly dessert) bar. There’s also a very wide selection of dimsums, though it’s mostly buns (mainland China style) rather than savoury bits (Hong Kong style). There’s also a table with six different spicy Sichuan cold dishes. There was a very limited western selection that included some baguettes, bread, and charcuterie.Every day, people fight for a table by the window; if that matters to you, make sure to go early. I also got into an argument with a person who cut in line at the noodle bar. 😟There’s an afternoon tea from 14:30 to 17:30 and happy hour from 18:00 to 20:00 at the Tea House on level 37 (one floor below the lobby). It’s always quiet and relaxing. The afternoon tea was a bit disappointing, since it was just two types of bagged tea with some cakes and fruits. Happy hour is great, with at least 5-6 different dishes and always a soup of the day. My favourite was the Korean shortribs and the pork soup with mushrooms and herbs. I would always stop by for a bowl of soup every day. Gym The hotel’s gym and spa (and karaoke room) are located on the 6th floor, so you’d have to change elevators at the lobby. It’s outsourced to a third party company. It was a very large gym with lots of equipment and two racks! The personal trainers there were very friendly and always came to spot me and give me tips. Make sure to use them! Service I did not have any issues with the staff. They were courteous but there was nothing remarkable. One small thing was that I thought they would notify me about the status of the drain blockage after they fixed it, but they didn’t.There was proper housekeeping and turndown; in both cases, water bottles were refilled, towels were replaced, and the trash cans were emptied. Housekeeping gave me a warm eye mask every day! They also folded my dirty clothes that I had randomly lying around on the couch, which was such a nice gesture, but I felt so bad that I started folding it myself after the first day. Overall I would not be surprised if this hotel got rebranded as the Park Hyatt. The property is new and modern, the benefits are plentiful, the location is central, and the staff were friendly. This was a much better stay than the PH Beijing. I would absolutely come back on my next visit to Chengdu.
