And that simplistic view is why I have no clue about how flight planning works in practice
Slots are not single but slot pairs, outbound and inbound which can complicate matters. Crew rest is also complicated, and where a crew does a long day they may need more than normal rest. These factors can add together to make slot juggling a difficult task.
