Whereas from YYZ there were tons of options throughout Europe, the Caribbean, and Central & South America, from YVR when looking at single leg trips the destinations are so limited
A few spots in Mexico, Hawaii, a couple long flights to major European cities, and East Asia. Admittedly YVR is far better for getting to Asian and Oceania, though these are still long journeys. I remember looking at flights to Costa Rica and I couldn't fly direct, lots of the options required flying to YYZ first and were ~20 hours!
Hoping to reduce my working hours and travel lots in the next few years, and I'm contemplating a move back to Toronto for the better travel options.
YVR (and basically every northwestern city) and most central and south american cities are too far apart YVR-SJO would take around 7 hours and YVR-GRU is around 14. Flights to SA also tend to be quite cheaper than TATLs and TPACs, and considering that, for the airline it would make more financial sense to run a new TPAC route with the same resources than a flight to south america, as that would generate more revenue.
