Technically true, but you probably don't want to do that. The language in the terms you agreed to when you applied for the card make it pretty clear that Amex wants you to keep the card for at least a year:
If we in our sole discretion determine that you have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this offer in any way or that you intend to do so (for example, if you applied for one or more cards to obtain an offer(s) that we did not intend for you; if you cancel or downgrade your account within 12 months after acquiring it; or if you cancel or return purchases you made to meet the Threshold Amount), we may not credit, we may freeze, or we may take away the Marriott Bonvoy bonus points from your account. We may also cancel this Card account and other Card accounts you may have with us.
Edit to add: Having second thoughts about the card isn't gaming the system, but that nuance has a strong potential to be lost when the "Member has closed/downgraded cards within 12 months of opening" flag gets set on your account. If you can get humans to review an account closure situation you would likely be able to prevail, but this is the type of thing that would probably mean the end of sign-up bonuses on any other Amex card for several years to come.
