Earlier this month they cancelled the BKK to MNK flight and then put the passengers up in a crappy hotel in BKK and would not even let them get out of the hotel. There were Thai passengers who wanted to go home and get back to the airport but they would not let them go and would not tell them a time to get back. PAL would not put passengers on other flights even though they connecting flights out of MNL on PAL and as far as I know these passengers paid out of their own pockets and flew out of BKK to MNL because they were missing their PAL connection out of MNL and hence had problems getting back to work on time.
It is the fault of the Philippines Government as they do not want to make a rule that airlines have to offer alternative means of transport even by other airlines. But they want the airlines to offer that option without a rule. No airline is going to do that.
