Technically, this is the correct setting. The European segment is more than 24 hours past the transatlantic segment and therefore, it does not get the transatlantic baggage allowance. That's the way it is with most airlines, not just KLM.

However, you can always play dumb, wave the transatlantic ticket in front of the check-in agent and in most cases they will let you get away with it.
