If it’s showing “full” on the upgrade list that means that they have blocked exactly the number of seats remaining. They actually have 9+ seats that they will use for op-ups if need be. And if they sell a J seat they’ll happily IDB someone on a cheap fare.
I'm not sure they oversell the O+J cabin. Y for sure. O for sure, but they block J to serve the O overflow as you indicated.
Notice they aren't selling J for the nonstop, just the connection. So, ?????
