Just stayed here over Labor day. It was empty, something like 40% occupancy. They claimed to not have any suites but put us in a corner, and even offered to give us a cabana. We went with the Corner because it was ready, but I somewhat regretted not taking the cabana. For the most part it is business as usually, with one major change:
Elites no longer get full buffet breakfast!!
We obviously expressed our dismay to one of the managers on site who blamed it on the "new management company." Off the top of my head, I think I have stayed at this property 6 times in the last two years. Cozumel makes an easy and quick getaway for me here in Austin, but I don't think I'm going to return to the Westin. They want you to pay $12 to upgrade to the full buffet, and for $24 for my partner and I, we can get a great breakfast in town. Dreams/Secrets on the South side of island regularly charge less than $250 (I actually paid $8 less for the Dreams than the Westin over Labor Day weekend) and they're all inclusive.
I hope the hotel backtracks on this poor decision.
