You’re right that it’s really not worth the fight in most cases. I think I’ve only been denied the checkout three or four times. The one time that I really thought about doing something about it was at a Courtyard in Buffalo. I’m Ambassador but they wouldn’t give me anything past 1 PM even though the hotel was dead because they said they don’t have any housekeepers working past 2. It was in Covid times (October 2020) so I just shrugged and let it slide.
On the flip side I was once proactively offered 6 PM at the Delta St. John’s after the lady at the front desk heard I had a 9 PM flight.
