Still, it's ridiculous that they'd so consistently deny a Gold elite member something as small as a 2 pm checkout.

Hell, I had a one-night stay at a Courtyard in 2017, back when I had no elite status with Marriott at all. Called down to the desk the morning of checkout and asked about a late checkout (they had an indoor pool and hot tub I wanted to enjoy before I left), and the cheerful front desk lady proactively offered me 3 pm. Only recently have I started to realize what an anomaly that was.
