As someone who uses both airports for connection, to be honest, in general and in particular for such a long route, the geographical distance between AMS and LHR is entirely negligible. Small differences that matter a little more is that KL has a better European network than BA and also that AMS is a much better airport for connections (especially ex-Schengen as you do not reclear security).

Having said that, having used BA's KUL route many times before it ended, I'd disagree with the underlying point too - my flights always had a lot of connecting people speaking all languages! I think the issue may be more that KL has strong cargo contracts on that route (indeed, it used to use the "mixed" pax/cargo 744 for years!) and I'm not sure if BA did as well on that front.
