At OLCI, NH makes those seats closer to the front available to anyone free. So good reason to check in as early as possible for any itineraries including ANA flights. I’ve also snagged some seats closer to the front, including bulkheads, at OLCI.
If you check in on UA (first operated flight) can you then go to ANA website to select seat? Or do you need to wait for ANA OLCI checkin to open, select seat and then go check in on UA? (I've found on some airlines you get locked out of seat selection once checked in on UA).
