Both BA’s SFO flights are over an hour late today. The queue at immigration off the (late) earlier flight to SFO two weeks ago was just over 2 hours.

Moral: a combination of BA’s timekeeping and the US’s Immigration efficiency means that the OP’s plan has a high chance of failure. Overnight in SFO would be less stressful.
