Delta is perceived as a “nicer” airline than American and United largely for reasons like higher quality food and drink in SkyClubs and free alcohol/snack basket in Comfort Plus. These amenities are available to all customers if they choose to pay. Making them more tied to status would be a mistake IMO. A customer that flies Delta 10 times a year while holding a Delta Reserve, visiting SkyClubs on each visit and buying up to C+ or F is a good customer even if they don’t hold any status.
AA have free alcohol in their C+ equivalent.
Polaris/Flagship > SkyClubs.
I really don't see how this 'premium' impression exists with DL.
