Out of the two I prefer SFO when onward connecting and coming in from the UK, on a single ticket I'd have no issue with 2.5hr connection.

Agree with the majority though on two separate tickets, lot less backup if things go pear shaped so unless you have a flex ticket for the onward I'd overnight also.
