There was a thread a month or so ago about this: an equipment change close to departure seems to need the original cancelled and replaced with a new flight [hence the 292->1292 move]. Presumably caused by an A380 going tech for a few days, and resulting in lots of downgrages due to the reduced capacity.

If you'd prefer to keep J above staying on the direct flight, AA ought to accommodate that?
