[QUOTE=easterlywinds;35553124]in my experience was completely impossible to do this Y <-> J (where I was sitting) on ANA.

to be courteous, immediately upon boarding I asked the FA (who happened not to be Japanese) about this, who first said it would probably be fine but that they had to go to purser to confirm and then followed up with some bizarre questions about the race of the passenger in Y. finally they came back hours later saying there was no way because it's an "asian airline" (their words).

i'd strongly recommend just swapping straight off the bat and not involving the FAs if you're flying on ANA.

I think this is 100% wrong advice, it's rude, discourteous and almost certainly will end up causing problems. Technically as the person in J does not hold a j BP they are committing theft,
id its swap between male and female, do you really think they would not notice ?

This is extremely entitled behavior and is LESS likely to bring the desired result !
