I don't really care but it is crystal apparent on the contrast vs. other airlines, which don't need a request from corporate by the way. They just provide consistent good service, including unsolicited thank you for being repeat customers.
Just yesterday, I got thanked by a Delta FA (while sitting in economy) for being a Silver (!), unprompted and all. Btw, hardly an one-time thing - even got personalized notes, again, as a Silver only.
This is a critical miss from most UA FAs. It's a shame because this should be something easy; surely would bring a lot of goodwill, yet most UA FAs choose to only do the bare minimum (even failing those at times).
It's definitely in the training. I just flew with a new FA (2 weeks in), and she was working in the galley. Once she found out that I'm 1K, she responded that "Oh, I'm supposed to thank you for being 1K".
Unlike DL, where GAs and FAs are drilled to thank every metal and precocious stones to the point where it sounds like a script, it's not the case yet at UA. I think I hear it a lot more from UC agents, occasional GAs, and FAs when I'm sitting in non-business/first seats. This includes one time where the FA brought me the predeparture bubbly when I was sitting in P+.
