A dated hotel further ruined by a lack of attention to details

Location The location is great; it’s right above the Yintai mall in the CBD of Beijing, across the street from the Guomao Mall, and close to a lot of malls and office buildings. There is a lot of luxury shopping nearby. It’s also right above the Guomao subway station and is connected directly during the day (until 22:00 ish). It’s a bit far from anything fun, though, like Sanlitun. Check In I checked in at 14:00. The lobby is on the 63rd floor and there are only three elevator that are all shared with mall users, so it can take a while for it to come and can be crowded. The bellman did not offer to help with my luggage, which I felt quite disappointed by at a Park Hyatt. The check-in agent was friendly but took a while to get everything done. I was not upgraded to a suite, or even a larger room, even though it was available. He asked if I needed any amenities in my room. He did not explain the benefits until I asked: breakfast from 6:30 - 10:30, gym and pool hours, and no lounge but told me to check out the restaurant on the 66th floor for good views. Then he walked me to the elevator.I felt quite rushed, even though there was nobody behind me in line. Room I booked a room with a view of Chang’An street. The room was very oddly designed. Right after coming in, I was facing the toilet, but it was just the toilet and a small sink, akin to a second half-bathroom in other hotel suites. There was no soap next to the sink and there was no extra toilet paper. It had a Toto bidet that opened the seat cover automatically. Then there’s an open area with both the shower and the tub. The rainfall shower head required me to pull on a nob the whole time for it to work; when I let it go, it went back to the handheld shower head. I reported this maintenance issue at check-out. The tub is shaped in a square shape that was not long or wide enough to fit my 6’ body. It had Le Labo amenities, except for the bath salt. The main sink area is hidden behind a wall. It also just had one face towel and two hand towels. There was a Dyson hair dryer. The bed was not too soft, which was perfect for me to sleep on. However, the sheets were not ironed properly; when my family came over, they thought I had taken a nap already and made the bed myself. There was a desk and a Nespresso machine. There are also lots of power ports with Chinese plugs (not universal) and USB-C ports. The welcome amenity was a fairly simple fruit plate with bananas, an orange, some grapes, and a pear. Dining I had breakfast on the 66th floor at the China Grill. There’s an a la carte menu as well as a buffet. I’d strongly recommend ordering from the menu, since there are some Beijing gems like Shaobing, Da Lu Mian, and Chaogan! They were cooked quite alright — nothing to special — but it was a good introduction to Beijing cuisine for someone who hasn’t tried before. The service at the restaurant was slow but attentive. My food took 20+ minutes to come and my cappuccino didn’t come until the end of my meal. Lack of Attention My overall impression at this hotel is that there is a lack of attention everywhere, both in terms of the soft and the hard product.Hard productThe room felt quite dated. The wallpaper is starting to peel, there are lots of dents and wear and tear on the furniture, and there are lots of stains everywhere. There was so much dust everywhere. When I rolled down the blinds with my family in the room, we all started coughing. There is dust on the desk lamp, in the teacups, on the nightstand, everywhere. There were so many stains on the carpet! Lots of stains were yellow and disgusting and were right next to the nightstand. The rainfall shower head was not working in my room, no matter how hard I tried. I was too tired to complain at the end of the day, but I have mentioned it at check-out.Soft productThe bed was not made with attention. The sheets were not ironed or straight. The room seemed like it hadn’t been vacuumed. There were strands of (pubic?) hair in the bathroom and shower areas and feathers under the bed. There were so many little things missing, from a bar of soap at the sink next to the toilet to towels in the main shower room to an extra roll of toilet paper. Turndown service put a glass on the nightstand but no bottle of water or slippers. My grandma came over to visit me in her wheelchair. There was absolutely nobody that offered to help hold the elevator or main door open. The staff were all standing around on their phones. She was walking around the lobby when a staff came to tell me that it was disturbing the other guests, even though there were many other (younger) guests walking around. There was a strong cigarette odour in the hallway and a strong smell of sweat on the couch throughout my stay. Overall This already dated hotel is further ruined by the lack of attention both in its soft product and its hard product. There are so many little things that the staff could have done to make the experience just a little bit better but none of it was done.I cannot recommend the hotel in its current situation. Compared to other PHs around the world and also in China, this is probably the worst and I don’t think it should bear the PH brand.
