One is not allowed to access the AC or the BA departure lounges upon arrival at LHR, so BA and AA both operated Arirvals Lounges, located after you go through immigration and customs. But I suspect that your analysis is correct by analogy: I suspect that the AA Arrivals Lounge is better than nothing, but not as good as the BA lounge.
