So I ask… well I don’t want a refund, can I change dates and get my prepayment as credit for the new night if I book a higher rate and pay the difference…? No is the answer.

Im sure the fine print is against me…. alas, can the hotel do anything with this (can they manipulate Bonvoy website direct bookings) or should I try again with the SPG customer service…?

Finally, if I end up having to let this go, can I still expect to get stay and points credit for a no show…? Again this is a rate I booked on the Bonvoy website directly.

“Changes allowed” means date changes. If you are unable to do it on the website, reach out to the hotel by email or phone and have them do it. The hotel always has the last word over reservations and they can override any rate restrictions or policies, if they choose to.
