This would also mean you could accumulate RU's, and for example upgrade both sectors on a long haul from Y to J.
Even if this was capped at 2 or 3 years’ entitlement, I think it would make quite a big difference. Most of my travel is domestic/TT/IUE so I don’t often have the chance to use mine (I’m WLG based so for TT I often can’t be stuffed routing via AKL unless I have a need for it) so would be nice to accumulate for long haul.
Or alternatively they could extend the privilege of being able to gift RUs to silver/gold, but unlike Elites, they could offer this only after we’ve tried at least a couple times to use them ourselves?
I tried to use mine twice in June/July (my only long haul travel this year) and given I have tried, and failed, it would be nice to have the option to gift to my mother who frequently travels between AKL and YVR because now it will likely go to waste. Or would that devalue the Elite benefit?
And yes I know as a Silver, I haven’t spent as much as an Elite, and yes I know we are last in line for RUs clearing as it is, but my point the same as a lot of others - Air NZ offer us a benefit that many find difficult to use (I don’t know of any silvers/golds outside this thread that have had an RU clear since 2020).
Or maybe if they gave us all the option of a complimentary domestic RT if an RU is expiring, as has been mentioned here before.
