I still think that LGA needs a rail connection; even if it’s not faster than the E train and Q70, the “highways” to LGA are frequently really congested and an AirTrain would provide an alternative to sitting in traffic.
Putting aside the enormous cost and inevitable long delays (see 2nd Ave subway line), the Airtrain proposal is a nonstarter, and while the N train extension has some potential, I am not holding my breath to ever see anything in my lifetime (and I am not even old). Astoria is where I live, and as a resident and taxpayer, I would oppose any new train constructions. If you know the area well, you would know why.
