Crew explained they would put the bag further along the aisle as there was not enough space above her seating area. (Moved quite a way - from row 34 to approx row 17). The issue if she never actually saw where it was is that in addition to the more nefarious fears that cannot be excluded, there is also a more basic possibility that somehow, your daughter didn't look at the place where the suitcase actually was (e.g. crew mentioned above row 17 but got the number wrong, bag got moved further, etc). So I would still recommend contacting BA a couple of days after the flight to check that the bag has not actually been found (explaining the situation). This is in addition to the other good recommendations given by others (rather than instead of).
