But how does the 'whole of the next year' thing come into play here if there isn't some sort of technical status drop going on behind the scenes? As you say, if those flights were before the OP's tier point collection year end they would only renew the status until the end of Dec '24.

So isn't what's happening that the status remains in place until Dec '23, but if they didn't do those flights they'd officially drop down to bronze in Jan '24? However, doing those flights re-silvers them until the end of '24, and because it's also (again, behind the scenes) an in-year uplift from bronze to silver, they then also retain that until the end of '24 and to the end of '25? It's the movement in tier that adds the extra year, isn't it; not simply requalifying?
