Ideally you want a Missing Baggage Report Reference, or AHL reference, which will probably begin LHRBA and then 5 numbers. If she filled in a form at the time, the AHL is on her copy of that form. However because it's not checked luggage agents may be reluctant / unable to give you that reference. I would nevertheless persist, and indeed start your call to say you need an AHL baggage reference. Telephone agents can't help with Customer Relations issues, which is where this belongs, but ideally you want to log the claim online to get the process going.

However when it comes to BA.com/complaints I think it will accept LHRBA12345 and then you can explain that in the text later on. It won't be easy getting recompense from BA on this, but the first thing is to get a claim. Do a screen shot before you press the blue or red Continue button.
