One other point I forgot - they wouldn't confirm a late checkout of 1 PM until the morning of departure, which is less than ideal as that means Housekeeping will still knock if they are relying on printed papers to notify them of room status. I just left at Noon.
I had the same thing at Canopy Madrid last week. I really hate hotels that do this, as my main motivation to ask for a late checkout is to be able to sleep longer. If I still have to wake up at 11 to consult checkout time with the front desk, I might as well leave at noon.
