Well AA elites also get MCE for free so that doesn't make sense in the context of the post you're responding to. But I think AA and AS are not well-synched in terms of elite benefits before ticketing actually takes place. I could recently only select a "preferred" seat on an AS flight after it was ticketed, not at the time of purchasing.
