My guess would be Second Officers. Cathay has apparently decreed that as part of their training they spend time observing other aspects (cabin, ground etc) of the CX operation.
If what I read on PPRUNE is to be believed then then is due to CX having insufficient Captains/Senior First Officers to form the crews necessary to use all the SOs on long haul flights. This in turn is due to CX firing/letting go far too many senior pilots as a cost-saving measure during Covid, and now being unable to get enough back due to the inferior terms on offer compared to US/European/Australian carriers. This in turn was apparently due to the short-term nature of Swire rotational assignments of management through CX, which disincentivises them to take a long term view of the business.
But that's just what I read on PPRUNE, so it's one side of the truth at best.
