First the seat is more comfortable. I have an easier time resting in the E seat (NH's designation for PremiumEconomy on their boarding pass), vs the Y seat even on FlyingHonu. When boarding is complete, the cabin attendants will move through your cabin with a basket of amenities to select from and there was a small amenity kit, and nicer slipper to enjoy. But having compared photos of my E and Y experience, it seems the meal service in Y was better than what I experienced in E (this is between HNL and NRT). For example, from HNL-NRT, in Y I received a fresh (and delicious) green salad, along with cold noodles and then the appetizers of potato salad, ham cold cuts, green beans, and another dish, a package of crackers and cheese; while in E, there was no fresh green salad, no beans, no additional dish, and no packaged crackers. I'm glad I took these photos and I'm going to post it below. Why would ANA diminish the E experience like that!? Now I'm disappointed. This was on my two HNL-NRT flights I experienced this month.
ETA re soup - in the E meal photo, the soup is in that smaller white cup closest to the tray. It's a broth. But they also offer that broth in Y so I guess that's what they're talking about re soup on the E menu? The petit four between Tokyo and HNL was either a chocolate coated short bread cookie, or a Japanese chocolate. Re deserts, to clarify that I did also have a cup of Haagen Dazs cup of vanilla ice cream but it was served separately as they took my tray.
