Definitely not the reason for this flight: there are ample nonstops between NYC and other US origins and TLV (AA, DL, UA, LY). For those American cities which don’t have nonstops, I have no doubt that connections on BA, AF, LH, LX etc are much more convenient. Does Finnair even price a JFK-TLV ticket via HEL?
Agreed its not a great flight, but just because there is a non-stop doesn’t mean everyone will fly on it. Plenty of people fly LHR to SIN on some carrier from the middle east even though there are direct flights.
I’m not sure if TLV is part of the transatlantic JV, but if it is I would think that this might help to justify the existence of this flights.
