sad to hear about the damage.

SIA will MOST LIKELY NOT take responsibility for the damage because it was not identified on the spot. i had the same problem back in OCt 2002 LHR-SIN. on reaching home, i discovered my luggage was damaged. called up SIA. was informed that due to the grey issues(luggage identied damaged at home), they are not able to compensate me for the damage. i flew first class and even so answer was negative.

then in Dec 2002 i had a SIN-HKG sector. another luggage with the locking mehanism damaged due to mishandling. immediately informed SIA on the spot. they sent their agent to collect my luggage from my hotel. everything was repaired and returned the following day.

i understand from another friend of mine that in the event your luggage is beyond repair, they will compensate u with one which is near similar priced to the damaged one. as much as possible, they will first get your luggage repaired.

Will the fact that I've waited a few days to report (it's New Year's) not help my claim?

Thanks!
