Here's the thing about the footnote. It's probably wrong, but since that footnote only applies to the 016 tickets, and there's no way to ticket this as 016, it's not going to matter. The chart which applies to non-016 tickets states No Mileage Credit and doesn't include Footnote 1.

I'm not saying it's not confusing -- it is -- but once you cut through the confusion, it's not ambiguous. OP will not earn miles with MileagePlus for that itinerary.
