Did any of you (or anyone else) end up using the 48-hour transit visa to enter Egypt without a visa (visa-on-arrival, e-visa, or otherwise)? I'm planning to rely on the 48-hour transit visa based on what I read here but I'd love to see it confirmed by a more official source and / or the first-hand experience of someone who's actually used it. TIA!

Update: I have given up on the visa-free transit option due to lack of clear information and my hotel in Cairo informing me that the visa-free transit option was only ever possible for passengers of Egyptair willing to give up their passport to Egyptair.

But the situation gets worse, apparently as of September 3, visa-on-arrival is no longer an option for Canadian passport holders, and it's unclear whether the e-visa remains viable. I've posted about it a more relevant thread.
